Studio visits 4 February 2013

Two studio spaces - one evening. This Monday we met in Gwen's studio, at Thames Tower in Hammersmith. We discussed her visual stock assemblage, creating narratives, states of "unfinishedness", reference to Anne Hardy, process of accumulating and the function of photographs. George presented thoughts of his sculptural practice as physical process vs his conceptual research which led to discussing dualism, body-mind, cultural ideology, pre-ethics (Levena) and in general the question of 'What is progress'. Sohrab introduced us to his studio practice at ACAVA Palace Wharf (thanks for tea!). We talked about a series of his photographs taken in the everyday of places he travelled, the capturing of these visual moments and how this was/is part of his practice.

Next Monday: We will be meeting guest speaker Keith Harrison at the V&A.
